O! For an Eagle

A day for raising awareness for protecting the eagle, Bald Eagle Day promotes educational outreach and assistance in recovery of their natural environments.

The bald eagle (a sea eagle) is a bird of prey found in North America with two known subspecies and forms.  Its range includes most of Canada and Alaska, all of the contiguous United States, and northern Mexico. It is found near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply and old-growth trees for nesting. The bald eagle is both the national bird and national animal of the United States of America.

"Eagle", in golf refers to a score of two under par for a given hole, and is an  extension of the bird theme of good scores, such as "birdie."
