"In a teacup or a purse they merrily ride,
With hearts of lions, none can hide.
"More bark than bite?" Oh, you've guessed wrong,
For that pint-sized frame, has a spirit so strong!
A glance, a prance, a sassy dance,
In the world of dogs, they wear the pants!"
~ Ode to a Chihuahua
Know a Chihuahua dog? Dress them up and putthem your dance bag! It's their special day! This lively John Drewry reel was inspired by an amusing television commercial's pronunciation of "Chihuahua" and was devised to celebrate a May Day! Chihuahuas, tiny canines with big personalities, originate from Mexico, specifically from the state of Chihuahua! Their name is believed to have roots in the Nahuatl language, where the term "chihuahueno" denotes something small or located in the dry, sandy area of Chihuahua. Historically, these dogs were considered sacred by ancient civilizations such as the Toltecs and the Aztecs, who valued them not only as companions but also for more mystical purposes, including as guides for the dead in the afterlife. Today, Chihuahuas have risen to prominence as one of the most popular dog breeds, particularly favored for their compact size and spirited personality. Their celebrity status has been boosted by their frequent appearances in films and commercials, making them a fashionable choice among pet lovers who add them to their handbags! Well, why not? And instead of the traditional "heuch" why not an "Oooh Chihuahua" for the final circle in this dance?! 🐾 🐶 🐾
Oooh! Chihuahua
Chihuahuas, while commonly seen as a singular breed, actually come in a variety of shapes and sizes that cater to a wide range of preferences. There are two main recognized types: the Smooth Coat (short-haired) and the Long Coat. Both types share the same diminutive frame and large, expressive eyes, but differ in their grooming needs. Additionally, Chihuahuas can be further distinguished by their head shapes: the ‘apple head’ featuring a rounded, dome-like skull which is the breed standard, and the ‘deer head’ which has a more elongated head and a slightly larger build. Colors and markings can vary extensively, offering palettes that range from solid black, white, and chocolate to tricolor or brindle. Despite these variations, all Chihuahuas are known for their loyalty, vibrancy, and outsized personality, making them a cherished companion regardless of the type.
