Flipping good fun awaits dancers this Pancake Day! Today is definitely the day for some delicious pancakes or bannocks! Indulge in this round the room two couple pancake-making recipe jig!

Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), or even Fasnacht Day, is the day time for using up rich ingredients for indulgent feasts before the Lenten fast. Meanwhile, No matter what you call it, today is about joy, movement, and a wee bit of culinary mischief—so whether you're twirling through a reel or flipping a pancake, make sure you give it your best flourish! Thoughtfully providing instructions for you to whip up a batch to bring to your classes, the devisor notes:

Bars 1–16 represent mixing the pancake batter.
Bars 17–24 are flipping the pancake.
Bars 25–32 are putting the pancake on the plate!

The Pancake Dance

Shrove Tuesday is all about using up rich ingredients before the fasting season of Lent, so different cultures have their own delicious traditions for this day. Here are some of the most famous Shrove Tuesday treats:


United Kingdom & Ireland


Pancakes – Thin, crepe-like pancakes served with lemon and sugar or syrup. The UK even has pancake races, where people run while flipping pancakes in a pan!


France & New Orleans (Mardi Gras)


King Cake – A colorful, ring-shaped cake decorated in gold, green, and purple (Mardi Gras colors), sometimes hiding a tiny baby figurine inside for good luck.


Crêpes – Similar to the British pancake but often filled with chocolate, fruit, or cream.


Germany & Switzerland (Fasnacht Day)


Fasnachts – Hearty potato-based doughnuts, deep-fried and often dusted with powdered sugar.


Berliner Pfannkuchen – German-style jelly-filled doughnuts, popular during carnival celebrations.


Sweden & Nordic Countries (Semla Day/Fat Tuesday)


Semlor (Swedish Cream Buns) – Soft, cardamom-spiced buns filled with almond paste and whipped cream.


Fastelavnsboller (Norwegian/Danish Custard Buns) – Sweet yeast buns filled with custard or jam, topped with icing.


Poland & Polish-American Communities (Pączki Day)


Pączki – Rich, deep-fried Polish doughnuts, stuffed with jelly, custard, or fruit, and covered in powdered sugar or glaze.


Lithuania & Latvia (Užgavėnės & Meteņi Festivals)


Pancakes & Donuts – In Lithuania, thick pancakes and fried doughnuts are eaten to drive away winter.
